Yes medicinal cannabis is legal in Australia. However, your doctor needs to get an approval from Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) before prescribing the medicinal cannabis.

Medical cannabis, also called medical marijuana, herbal drug derived from plants of the genusCannabis that is used as part of the treatment for a specific symptom or disease. Although the term cannabis refers specifically to the plant genus, it is also used interchangeably with marijuana, which describes the crude drug isolated from the plants’ leaves and flowers.

The answer is yes and no. To elaborate, the medicinal property of medicinal cannabis is due to the presence of certain chemicals called cannabinoids. There are two major cannabinoids, they are CBD and THC. THC is psychoactive and CBD is non-psychoactive. If you are taking product containing THC you are not allowed to drive. However, if you are taking product containing CBD there is no restriction for driving

Do I qualify for a refund if the prescriber decides I am not eligible for the treatment? You will be screened for your eligibility before you are allowed to book the appointment. However, if the doctor decides you are not eligible for the treatment your consultation fee will be refunded.

As with any medications medicinal cannabis also have side effects. Major side effects are drowsiness, finding difficulty to concentrate, anxiety and dizziness.
